Courses

A Course on Sampling Data Analysis was held on August 23-27, 2004, jointly organized by IASI and the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC) of Argentina. This activity had support from the Program for Improving Living Conditions (MECOVI), conducted by the World Bank, IDB and ECLAC. The course was held in Buenos Aires, at INDEC's facilities, and was taught by professors doctors Pedro Luis do Nascimento Silva and Djalma Galvão Carneiro Pessoa, from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). Dr. Silva was at that time the President of IASI.

In addition to presenting methods for analysis of complex survey data, the course introduced participants to the use of the R statistical software, for which a number of functions for analyzing data from complex surveys are available. The course was free for participants and in addition to attendants from Argentina, there were participants from Chile, Honduras, Mexico and Panama.
