Membership in the Inter-American Statistical Institute (IASI) is regular, institutional, and “ex officio”.

Regular members are persons recognized as professionally active in the field of statistics, and admitted to membership in the Institute in accordance with the Bylaws. Members of established reputation in some aspect of statistical work who have reached the age of sixty-five and who have had a minimum of fifteen years of consecutive membership in good standing may be designated as members with Emeritus Status.

Student members shall be students with interests in statistics, in any academic level, whose entrance in the membership is supported by one of his or her professors, being this a regular member, and admitted in accordance with the Bylaws.  

Institutional members may be Affiliated or Sponsoring. Affiliated members shall be agencies, institutions, or organizations which are engaged in statistical work or have statistical interests, admitted to membership in the Institute in accordance with the Bylaws. Sponsoring members shall be institutions which are interested in furthering the work of the Institute with financial support, admitted to membership in the Institute in accordance with the Bylaws.

“Ex officio” members shall be persons occupying certain statistical offices or having certain representative capacities in specified national and international agencies and associations working wholly or in part in the field of statistics.

METHODS OF PAYMENT OF MEMBERSHIP DUES

Membership dues can be paid following any one of the following alternative procedures:

1. Payment in cash:

  • In Panamá, in U.S. Dollars, in the Permanent Office in Panama.
  • In Argentina, in Argentinian pesos or in U.S. Dollars, in the office of the Executive Editor of the journal “Estadística” in Buenos Aires.

2. Payment by cheque payable to the Inter-American Statistical Institute:

  • In Panamá, in U.S. Dollars, drawn on any Bank of the United States or Panama, sent to Permanent Office in Panama
  • In Argentina, in Argentinian pesos or in U.S. Dollars, drawn on any Bank of the United States or Panama, sent to the Executive Editor of the journal “Estadística” in Buenos Aires.

3. Payment to the national statistical societies indicated below, following the methods established by them (cash, cheque, bank deposit, etc.):

  • In Argentina, in Argentinian pesos, to the Argentinian Statistical Society (Sociedad Argentina de Estadística-SAE).
  • In Brazil, in "Reais", to the Brazilian Statistical Association (Associação Brasileira de Estatística-ABE).
  • In Colombia, in Colombian pesos, to the Colombian Statistical Society (Sociedad Colombiana de Estadística -SCE)

  • In Mexico, in Mexican pesos, to the Mexican Statistical Association (Asociación Mexicana de Estadística-AME).

4. In an alternative way agreed upon with the Permanent Office.

Notes: (a) Dues are charged in U.S. Dollars. (b) The current rate of exchange will be applied to payments in Argentinian pesos, in Colombian pesos, "Reais", or in Mexican pesos. (c) Special dues are applied to joint membership in IASI and selected National Statistical Associations (consult with the Permanent Office). (d) It is not necessary that cheques are extended by the members themselves, but it will be necessary that in sending them, specification is made of the member(s) whose dues are paid.
